Loos for Kilburn: KOVE Rally for Public Toilet Access as Sixteen Businesses Join The Scheme

On November 18th, undeterred by the uncertain weather, spirited KOVE members paraded along Kilburn High Road to commemorate World Toilet Day. Embarking from Kilburn Library at 2 pm, we marched northward, brandishing placards and sharing informative flyers.

The march was a celebration of KOVE’s relentless efforts, showcasing the impact achieved. Sixteen businesses have enthusiastically joined the ‘Loos for Kilburn’ initiative, welcoming non-paying members of the public to use their restroom facilities upon request. Every person we engaged with received a flyer pinpointing venues along the High Road committed to this scheme by November 2023, a testament to our collective achievements.

Fueling our cause were compelling taglines boldly emblazoned on placards (“Need More Loos,” “Want Public Toilets Back”) that were crafted in workshops kindly hosted at Metroland Studios. Urgency echoed through the march, highlighting the pressing need for expanded public toilet access. Statistics from the NHS reveal that almost 1 in 5 individuals grapple with some form of urinary incontinence, emphasising the critical importance of accommodating everyone’s needs, even those not visibly apparent.

This initiative, bolstered by One Kilburn’s support, aims to forge stronger community bonds among Kilburn’s daily high-street visitors. The atmosphere was electric as we championed this cause, revelling in our progress while rallying for increased accessibility.
